Caryn & Sean: October 6, 2007

This is the type of wedding that’s truly once-in-a-lifetime.

Not to detract from other weddings that I’ve done recently, but there’s something incredibly special about Caryn & Sean - they met in middle school, have been together since high school, and they’re both so much fun to be around.  From the start of their ceremony, it was clear to the guests that they were in for an uniquely unforgettable night (the ceremony program included a crossword puzzle and pencil personalized with their names and wedding date).

The ceremony and reception both took place at the Coonamessett Inn, one of my favorite locations on Cape Cod.   The bride & groom chose to forgo the usual sit-down meal in favor of food stations and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, and it was a wise choice for them - it allowed the guests more time to mingle and the freedom to sample from a number of unique dishes prepared to order by the expert staff.

And then the dancing began.

First, it was the guests, even before the wedding party was introduced.

Next, it was the bride and groom.  And here’s what made their dance unique: halfway into the nice, slow song they selected, they broke into a swing dance that bested anything I’ve seen on “Dancing With The Stars”.  Nobody expected it, except for Caryn, Sean and me (I had sequenced the music ahead of time to go with their well-rehearsed routine).  How many grooms take a running leap over the bride’s head during their first dance?

It was amazing.

The party was off to a great start.  Guests continued dancing while the bride and groom got a chance to relax, and after the cake cutting and parent dances, the Groomsmen gathered on the dance floor to present their own choreography - the “Soulja Boy” routine that’s a huge hit on YouTube.  The bride joined in, and everyone cheered for them.  Even I wasn’t sure what to expect… this was unbelievable.

Later in the night, Sean asked Caryn to take a seat in the middle of the dance floor, where he read a poem that he had written just for their wedding day.

The dance floor remained packed until the very end of the night… EVERY song was a hit with the 190 guests, and the night went by faster than anyone expected it would.  I received tons of compliments while I was packing up, from Caryn & Sean, their guests, their parents, the photographer and videographer.  Even Owen, the manager at the Coonamessett, told me that this was one of the top three receptions he’s ever seen.

Congratulations, Caryn & Sean!

One Response to “Caryn & Sean: October 6, 2007”

  1. [...] Every once in a while I get the privilege of working for a couple who really goes above and beyond to put their own unique “stamp” on their wedding day. These receptions sometimes require a little more planning and coordination on my part, but they’re always worth the extra effort because they’re sure to be remembered in the years that follow. One of the first really unique receptions for me took place back in 2003 at the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset; it featured a game of “Cranium” led by the bride and groom and played by all of their guests, followed by a karaoke sing-a-long. Another memorable reception was Caryn & Sean’s wedding last October; I wrote about it in this post. [...]
